Wow! I think the sun is killing the tree, but that that's a good thing for the photograph. It's bursting through, giving energy to an otherwise peaceful image.

i like the sun! it is a little strong, but it gives a feel to the photo that it wouldnt have if it were gone. like what ~helennias said. and the B&W looks awesome!

i think your right... a composition excluding the sun would still produce pillars, only you wouldnt have any of that overblown tree in there.

I might have liked to see the fence vanish a little into the bottom of the frame too :)
I really like that light effect, it works really well in black and white. I dont know if it would be as effective in colour anyway. fav :)
